International standards
EN ISO 374-5 ‘Terminology and performance requirements for micro-organisms risks This standard specifies performance requirements for gloves against micro-organisms. Microbiological agents are: bacteria, virus or fungi. Penetration testing is required for all gloves claiming micro-organisms protection; the test method is described in EN ISO 374-2:2014, air-leak and water-leak. The possibility of claiming protection against viruses was added, if the glove passes ISO 16604: 2004 (method B) test.

Chemical Assessment Process
In many workplace situations chemical protective gloves are intended to limit the systemic uptake of chemicals in the hands. Employers are obligated to carry out risk assessments to collect all information on risks to health at a workplace. Protective gloves are needed to prevent injuries to the hands and to comply with the hazard prevention hierarchy.
Chemical Exposure Type Determine and confirm the level of chemical exposure that the gloves must resist • Immersion The gloves provide full protection against complete chemical immersion. • Splash
1
Gloves provide protection to minor chemical exposure, but is not suitable for full immersion.
Support Tools and Methods Consolidate and analyze the chemical risks present in the workplace. Gathered analysis data, compare and utilize the detailed chemical chart and the permeation breakthrough times table 2
Ideal Polymer Construction Identify and choose the ideal polymer construction that can resist the chemical type present in your job. Select the appropriate gloves that fit these needs. Material Applications Nitrile Using apparatus under pressure, air or water reactive chemicals NBR
