CLEANING YOUR FACEPIECE During breaks and between a more thorough cleaning, a refresher wipe pad may be used to clean the portion of the mask that comes in contact with your face. Follow the steps below for a thorough cleaning. 1. Remove the cartridges or filters. 2. Remove all valves, speech diaphragm, mesh headnet, exhalation seat and guard, oral/nasal cup, and inhalation connectors from the facepiece. Wash the facepiece and components thoroughly in the cleaner sanitizer solution. Use a soft brush on the facepiece and headgear assembly to loosen any caked-on dirt. 5. Rinse the facepiece and components in clean, warm water and then let dry completely. 6. Reassemble your facepiece after following all steps outlined in INSPECTION. CAUTION Do not use abrasive cleaners on the lens. Abrasives can remove the protective coating from the lens, making it susceptible to scratch and chemical degradation. WARNING Never allow cartridges or filters to come in contact with water o r cleaning and sanitizing solutions. Moisture can damage the cartridges or filters. Failure to comply these warnings will result in the risk of serious injury, illness or death. 5400 RESPIRATOR 1. Remove the respirator’s components. c. Remove the oral/nasal cup by gently pulling it away from the speech diaphragm housing (Figure 24). d. Pull out the inhalation valves and valve seats in the oral/nasal cup (Figure 25). e. Pull the exhalation guard off of the exhalation assembly by tugging firmly (Figure 26). f. From the front, turn the exhalation assembly counterclockwise 45 degrees until it stops, and then pull the assembly out of the lens. It is easier to turn if held by two hands, one inside the mask (Figure 27).

g. Remove the orange exhalation valve from the exhalation valve seat (Figure 28). h. Push in on the cartridge connectors to unseat them from the gaskets (Figure 29). i. Pull the cartridge gaskets out of the lens (Figure 30).

2. Inspect all components for any wear or damage. a. Check components for holes, tears, crazing or other signs of wear. b. Replace any components that are damaged or missing. c. Wash the facepiece components. d. Prepare a solution of cleaner sanitizer according to instructions. e. Wash the facepiece and components thoroughly in the cleaner sanitizer solution. Use a soft brush on the facepiece and headgear assembly to loosen any caked on dirt. f. Rinse the facepiece and components in clean warm water and then let dry completely.
