Honeywell FENZY BIO-S-CAPE Manual
Operating principle The FENZY BIO-S-CAPE is a self-contained, open-circuit emergency evacuation breathing apparatus, operating with a high pressure compressed air reserve. The apparatus supplies the user with breathing air at continuous flow rate. The high pressure of compressed air from the cylinder is reduced to medium pressure by the pressure reducing valve, then feeding air at continuous flow rate into the hood. This continuous flow rate is set and maintains a slight overpressure in the hood. Carrying bag (figure 2) A wide, adjustable neck strap with two attachment points and a fast adjustment point offers greater comfort. A strap is also available as an option to allow it to be carried on the belt. The upper part of the bag is secured by 2 self-gripping strips and a security seal. The red handle opens the bag rapidly and completely and actuates the pressure reducing valve automatically. The wide window in the bag allows the pressure gauge and pressure reducing valve to be seen at all times. For use in an explosive atmosphere, contact us. Pressure reducing valve The pressure reducing valve is actuated automatically. It provides a stable supply of breathing air into the hood, whatever the pressure in the cylinder. Attached directly to the cylinder neck, it has a filling connector (200 bar), protected by a non-return valve. The pressure reducing valve operates at 200 bar. Alarm whistle The whistle is fitted to the flexible supply hose and air passing through the whistle does not reduce the supply time of the hood. The whistle warns the wearer when the FENZY BIO-S-CAPE reaches the end of the supply time for its air reserve. The whistle remains audible until the cylinder is completely exhausted. Continuous cylinder pressure indicator (Figure 3) The HP pressure gauge, built into the pressure reducer, allows the pressure to be read quickly at any time. For information, at 15°C, the high-pressure gauge should indicate a filling pressure matching the maximum filling pressure for the cylinder. Breathing hood The hood is used to fully isolate the user, while allowing maximum comfort and visibility. It can be taken out of the bag quickly. It is easy to adjust and remains flexible due to the self-inflating air cushion. The elastomeric seal keeps the hood fully sealed at the neck. The inner half mask keeps the lens free of fog and minimises the empty space in the hood. The self-inflating cushion at the neck flattens the interior half-mask and adjusts it automatically. Cylinders The cylinders used with breathing apparatuses must be made of metal or composite material and contain breathing air in accordance with EN12021. The compressed-air cylinders used must comply with European Directive 2014/68/EU applicable to Pressurised Equipment. The FENZY BIO-S-CAPE HP pressure gauge enables the pressure in stored cylinders to be checked easily at a glance. If at 15°C, a pressure less than 180 bar is displayed for 200 bar cylinders, the cylinder must be refilled with breathing air. The supply time of the FENZY BIO-S-CAPE, in accordance with standard EN1146, is printed on the label affixed to the carrying bag for the apparatus; it is 10 min or 15 min depending on the cylinders used. For information, the method for estimating the supply time of a breathing apparatus is below: The volume of air carried is calculated on the basis of the capacity and filling pressure of the cylinder: One 2-litre cylinder at 200 bar contains: 2 x 200 = 400 litres of air The supply time of the apparatus depends on the quantity of air carried as well as the continuous flow rate of the breathing apparatus. Supply time table Cylinders Filling pressure Volume of air Minimum theoretical duration 2 litres 200 bar 400 litres 10 minutes 3 litres 200 bar 600 litres 15 minutes
Honeywell strongly recommends to fill the cylinder at 200 bar at 15°C. The classification has been assessed for this working pressure. Any reduction in the final pressure in the cylinder may lead to reduce the duration of the device.
USE FENZY BIO-S-CAPE apparatuses must only be authorised for use if they have been periodically maintained in accordance with these instructions. For safety reasons, it is recommended to perform a visual check of the cylinder pressure of the FENZY BIO-S-CAPE as part of regular inspection rounds. Operating conditions for the apparatus -15°C to +60°C
