FOREWORD The mining industry is one of the most vital sectors of the global economy, providing raw materials that are critical to modern-day living. However, the nature of mining work also presents risks to the health and safety of mining workers. To stay ahead of the mining industry’s evolving demands, we conduct regular reviews of our product offering to ensure we are at the forefront of the workwear and safety needs of the industry. In producing this mining industry range, we set out to identify the key hazards faced by mine workers and develop corresponding safety solutions. As part of this work, our research involved site visits with the leading global mining companies specialising in underground mining, tunnelling, and transport infrastructure based in Europe. We spoke with an independent engineering expert who advises on the management of safety compliance involved in underground works and is investigating the effect of heat stress and fatigue in underground workers. Furthermore, we conducted desk research and compiled feedback from our global sales team to address the individual needs of their markets from their local network of distributers who supply the top 10 global mining companies in countries such as Chile, South Africa, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco & West Africa, and Central Asia. The results identified over ten key hazards faced by mining workers, including dust and flying debris, welding splatter, chemical gases, muscular skeleton disorders, thermal stress, among many others. Here we detail these hazards, and you will find solutions to protect against them.
