The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has a code of practice which specifies the standard of safety garment that a worker must wear while working in or close to hazardous traffic areas. This safety standard is called TTMC-W17. All garments align to AS 4602.1:2011 Amendment No. 2. The area of high visibility background material for each design meets the requirements of AS 4602.1:2011 High Visibility Safety Standard. Compliant styles have a specific belt and braces configuration of 50mm retro reflective tape. The vertical measurement for the position of the waist hoop is taken from the highest shoulder point and is positioned at 53cm +/- 2. The overall front length of vests and shirts does not exceed 71cm and the back hem drop extends another 15cm +/- 0.5. Any buttons, studs or similar closure devices that are placed on compliant material must be concealed or match the colour of the garment. There are no breaks permitted on the waist hoop except for a 25 mm front opening break.
