ELECTRICAL HAZARD
STATIC DISSIPATIVE
WHAT’S THE RISK? Electrical hazard protection (EH), protects the wearer from accidental contact by stepping on live electric wires. It is not suitable for live electrical working. EH footwear is not suitable where antistatic properties are required.
WHAT’S THE RISK? Static dissipative properties (SD) refers to the static discharge when a statically charged person touches an object. Should this charge be transmitted through circuitry, the result could be that of catastrophic damage to sensitive components and circuits.
EH Protective footwear constructed or manufactured to be resistant is capable of withstanding the application of 18 000 V, at 60 Hz for 1 minute with no current flow or leakage current in excess of 1.0 mA under dry conditions. In wet environments, where the protective qualities of the footwear are compromised or there is a step potential hazard, dielectric overshoes should be used.
WHO IS AT RISK? Those working in electrical assembly and working with micro chip technology.
SD Footwear shall reduce the excess static electricity by conducting the charge (from body) to ground while simultaneously maintaining a sufficiently high level of resistance. Static dissipative footwear is only applicable to safety footwear that includes an impact and compression resistant toecap
CARE INSTRUCTIONS Keep the outsole clean.
Electrical hazard protection is severely deteriorated in the following conditions: excessive wear on the soling material or exposure to wet and humid environments. Footwear can become contaminated with conductive materials. For example, soles can pick up metal shavings, screws and nails. These conductive items may reduce the effectiveness of the EH protection. Dry the footwear thoroughly after use.
