MID LAYERS COMFORT ON THE INSIDE

1 2 3

Like base layers, a mid-layer should always be highly breathable and able to retain heat to regulate your body temperature. In milder conditions, you may not need anything on top of your mid-layer, but in adverse weather conditions, an outer waterproof or windproof shell is necessary.

OUTER LAYERS

The outer layer (or shell layer) protects you from wind, rain and snow. Shell range from robust mountaineering jackets to simple wind resistant jackets. Most allow at least some perspiration to escape; virtually all are treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) finish to make water bead up and roll off the fabric.
